Silverfish

The Silverfish is aptly named due to its preferred habitat and distinctive coloring. While they can be white or brown, their predominant bluish-silver hue sets them apart. These household pests tend to inhabit dark and damp places, often leading to infestations being discovered in bathrooms. One of their preferred hiding spots is in bathtub drains. Teardrop shaped and typically measuring between 12-19 mm in length, Silverfish are nocturnal and adept at quickly scurrying away undetected. This stealthies can make it challenging to detect the severity of an infestation, which can go unnoticed for an extended period.

Silverfish have a voracious appetite and will consume almost anything they come across in your pantry or bedroom. Their diet primarily consists of carbohydrates such as sugars and starches, but they’ve also been known to devour cellulose, bookbinding glue, shampoo, bed linens, silks, and even other deceased insects. These pests are notorious for causing damage to clothing and books. What’s more alarming is that they’ve been found in unopened food packages. Given their insidious nature, eradicating them from your home requires the assistance of a pest control expert.
